Foggy Pier

These are uncertain and unsettling times. Many of us are more anxious than ever, trying to navigate everything that is happening in our lives and our world. It's easy to get out of balance, especially during this difficult time. The great news is: good therapy can help. In addition to in-person appointments, I have opened up some new appointment times for teletherapy for Blue Cross Blue Shield and self-pay.

I help people get back on track, get their lives and relationships working again. I specialize in helping people overcome anxiety, personal challenges, relationship issues, stress, transitions, addiction. I believe in the importance of developing a safe, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. My clients say our sessions go too quickly as we get right into things in a dynamic way.

That we always need just another minute.

We will together explore issues in a deep way, using a relational approach, which draws on my experience, and training in existential philosophy and contemporary psychodynamic therapy....a compassionate rigorous insistence on taking responsibility for oneself.  I help the people I work with explore issues of identity and relationships and self-exploration.

I work with adults and emerging adults 18+ dealing with relationship issues, adjustment issues, students new to the area and adjusting to college or graduate school, people experiencing new jobs, new living situations, stage of life issues, grief, identity, and life transition.

I am concerned with the issues and contradictions we all struggle with: how can I be loving to another person and true to myself? How can I be a good parent?  How can I help my aging parents while being a parent to my own teenage children?  I work with the paradoxes and contradictions we all face in life, rather than avoiding them.

I won’t pathologize or judge you or give you easy ways out but we will together work through the complex role of being human.  My goal in therapy is to help you take responsibility for yourself, enhance your self-awareness and foster understanding of your thoughts, feelings and beliefs in relation to your experiences. I focus on you, not on your symptom. I will compassionately challenge you and our process. In these uncertain times, we want to return to normal.  Some of us may want to consider what normal for us is: what do we want to hold onto and what might we want to let go of? In some ways, these times, while unsettling, may present the opportunity for positive change.
